The Failure of Mil-P-18177C Laminates at Elevated Temperatures in a Fuze Application,

Abstract

FRP/epoxy MIL-P-18177C laminates have failed, due to flow of the resin component, when used in the Friction Washer for the FMU-83/B Fuze. Tests indicate that these laminates could fail at temperatures below 54 C (130 F) and possibly even at normal storage temperatures. MIL-P-18177C laminates are not suitable for use in ordnance fuze applications requiring compression loading and exposure to elevated storage temperatures. (Author, modified-PL)
