The Determination of Optimal Reproduce Ratios for Various Gas/Pressure Conditions.

Abstract

A continuously variable reproduce ratio system (CVRR) was devised to determine the most desirable speed ratio for reproducing recorded gas/pressure-distorted speech. Seven naive listeners were presented six speech samples recorded under different gas/pressure conditions and were asked to adjust the reproduce ratio until the sample 'sounded best.' Each subject listened to one binaural presentation and four monaural presentations. The subjects easily adjusted the undistorted speech to normal speed (1. O.R.R.). (Author)
