Low Speed Detonation in Explosive Powders (O Maloi Skorosti Detonatsii Poroshkoobraznykh VV),

Abstract

Low speed detonation can occur in a variety of explosives within certain ranges of charge diameter and dispersion. Such detonations propagate by surface combustion. The threshold of transition to normal detonation may represent a point at which the shock wave is sufficient to initiate volume decomposition or a level at which grinding action sharply increases the surface area of the individual grains.
