Magnetic Rare Earth Compounds

Abstract

The magnetically uniaxial rare earth garnets (Eu, Er)3(Ga, Fe)5O12 and (Gd,Y,Yb)3 (Ga,Fe)5O12 have been grown on (111), Gd3Ga5O12 substrates by the liquid phase epitaxial dipping technique in both PbO-B2O3 and BaO-B2O3-BaF2 solvents. The BaO-based solvent has been characterized with respect to solubility and suitable growth parameters of the magnetic garnets. The substrate and magnetic films have been characterized with respect to compositional uniformity, lattice parameters, impurities, surface morphology, thickness uniformity and magnetic properties.
