Studies in Stability and Control of Systems with Distributed Parameters.

Abstract

During the period covered by the report, studies have been made on various theoretical aspects of stability and control of systems with distributed parameters. Most of these studies have been motivated from problems associated with the control of distributed physical systems, in particular, aerospace vehicles with flexible structures, thermonuclear reactors. The main objectives of these studies were (1) to gain a fundamental understanding of the major problems in the control of distributed systems, (2) to unify and extend the existing mathematical theories which may have potential applications in this area, and (3) apply the results of the theoretical studies to problems of practical importance. The main results of these studies will be described categorically in the sequel. (Author)
