First Field Test of the Electronic Distance-Measuring Instrument 'Luch' (Pervyi opyt Proizvodstvennogo Primeneniya Radiodalnomera 'Luch'),
Abstract
The geodetic distance measuring instrument 'Luch' was first used operationally to establish geodetic ties in nets separated by 40 - 60 km of water. Such a transmission of coordinates by the method of triangulation or trilateration using other distance-measuring instruments would entail many serious technial difficulties and expenses. The use of the range finder 'Luch' made it possible to essentially simplify this problem. Random errors with the 'Luch' are small. (Author)
