On the Tails of Queueing-Time Distributions,

Abstract

In the paper, the classes of functions of moderate growth and subexponential tail functions (SETF) are discussed in detail including their closure under tail-integration and asymptotic forms for tail integrals. Various familiar functions are shown to be SETF. The properties of these functions are then used to prove simple relations between tail probabilities of the service-time distribution, the ladder-variable distribution, and the stationary queueing-time distribution, for the familiar G/G/1 queue.
