Factors Affecting the Detection and Recognition of Colored Targets.

Abstract

The literature was reviewed in the areas of (a) effects of limited stimulus energy and background factors on the detection and recognition of colored signal lights; and (b) determining factors affecting observers' performance in absolute identification of target colors. Five experiments were conducted to determine the effects of two classes of variables on an observer's ability to quickly and accurately identify the reflected color of a target: background and reaction time.
