DC-Electroluminescent Flat Panel Display.

Abstract

Films of ZnS:Mn:Cu have been co-sputtered in a radio-frequency sputtering apparatus over a wide continuum of composition of the dopants. It appears that it should be possible to consturct a dynamic flat-panel x-y addressable display having a 10% duty cycle and an average light output of 25 to 50 fL. Plans for a display with 10 x 35 cells addressable line-at-a-time are being formulated. A first prototype x-y addressable display with an array of cells 20 x 30 has been made using sputtered films. Improvements in the procedure for coating phosphor powders with conductive copper sulfides in aqueous systems have been developed and work has begun on encapusulating the cells.
