Constitutive Relations from 'in situ' Lagrangian Measurements of Stress and Particle Velocity.

Abstract

A program on in situ measurement of stress waves has been undertaken to obtain more realistic constitutive realtions for rocks and soils. During the past year the author have worked on: (1) modification of the ytterbium stress gages and examination of grouting and emplacement procedures for fielding in rocks and soils over the stress range of 0.1-30 kbar, (2) fielding of ytterbium and manganin stress gages for two high-explosive tests (pre-Diamond Mine and Middle Gust, Event I), and (3) development of a particle velocity gage for field use.
