Isolation and Study of a Polysaccharide Rich Material from Heavily Fouled Test Panel Scrapings.

Abstract

An acid polysaccharide rich material was isolated from heavily fouled test panel scrapings recovered from test panels that had been submerged in the sea at various sites for 1-6 months. The complexity of the material as shown by chromatography of hydrolysates and other analyses suggested the presence of a variety of polysaccharides. It seemed unlikely that the polymers were in the main, bacterial products. (Author)
