Biomedical Research in Iran as Seen during a Brief Visit.

Abstract

A description of the main medical and related research activities encountered in a brief visit to Tehran and Shiraz is reported. The following topics are included: (1) A summary of a publication describing the geographic pathology and epidemiology of the country, with particular reference to the region of Shiraz in the south. (2) Notes on individual items of medical research at Pahlavi University Medical School. (3) A description of the activities of the Pasteur Institute of Tehran and plans for further development. (4) Descriptions of the organization and activities of the Biological Department, National University of Iran, and the School of Public Health in the University of Tehran. (5) A sketch of the regional cooperation between Turkey, Iran and Pakistan sponsored by the CENTO secretariat, with a short statement on some of the projects in the Life Sciences. (Author)
