High-Efficiency Solid State Microwave Amplifier.

Abstract

The report describes the design and development of a wideband TRAPATT amplifier in a microstrip configuration. This development was guided by both the original development of a coaxial wideband TRAPATT amplifier as well as the concurrent development of an analytical theory for the TRAPATT amplifier. Performance of microstrip amplifier was found to be essentially the same as for coaxial amplifiers: 8dB gain over an 8% bandwidth. S-band TRAPATT oscillators were demonstrated with 10 W output for 20 microsec. pulses. The phase response of TRAPATT amplifiers was shown to be relatively independent of the particular choice of active devices selected from a given run of diodes. (Author)
