LaMBDA Prototype Development and Testing.

Abstract

Continued development work performed on the LaMBDA device, a high-power pulsed laser tuned to probe the upper atmosphere for individual atomic species concentration, is described. Recent accomplishments described include: Incorporation of a high-power yellow laser, and routine measurement of the natural sodium layer at the 90-100 km level, Development of prototype green and blue lasers, Achievement of 10,000-pulse lamp lifetimes. Use of this newly demonstrated capbility ot collect data of importance to the ABM and DNA communities, which can be obtained in no other manner, is discussed briefly. (Author)
