Boundary Lubrication

Abstract

The report reviews the state-of-the-art of Boundary Lubrication and presents the prospects of such improvements in the lubrication of highly-loaded bearings as virtually to eliminate bearing failures and of mathematical models which might explain the low wear observed. These models are shown to be inadequate and some steps are taken to complete them. It is shown that 27 out of the 28 anomalies are explained by the expanded models. A plan for applying this knowledge to design practices is outlined.
