Thermal Expansion of Chromium and Solid Solutions with a Chromium Base,

Abstract

The investigation used the roentgenographic method to measure the coefficients of thermal expansion of chromium (the metal with the best possibilities for heat-resistant materials) and of its solid solutions with molybdenum and vanadium. A figure of the enclosure shows the dependence of the modulus of elasticity on the content of molybdenum in solid solutions of Cr-Mo and the isothermic curve of the coefficient of thermal expansion of these alloys. The modulus of elasticity of the Cr-Mo alloys was measured. In the region of the maximal increase of atomic interaction, the coefficient of thermal expansion is lowered about 10 percent, while the modulus of elasticity increases 5 percent. (Author)
