Principles of Changing the Viscosity of Metal and Slag in Oxygen-Converter Melting,

Abstract

The report concerns the viscosity of Bessemer metal and slag and the laws of its change during the oxidation refinement of martensitic iron in an industrial 55-t converter. The ore, lime, and fluorspar were added in two portions: first with the beginning of the blowing, the second over 6-7 min. during the course of the blowing. Iron ore used with 3-4 percent of the weight of the cast iron, lime 7-9 percent, and fluorspar about 0.1 percent. Oxygen consumption was maintained at a level of about 140-150 cum per min. at a pressure of 9-12 atm (gage). Total length of the melting was 16-19 min. (Author)
