Some Questions of the Strength of Siliconized Graphites,
Abstract
Results are stated from an investigation of short term tensile strength of siliconized graphites with a different content of the silicon carbide, carbon, and silicon in their composition. The siliconized graphite is a material which is obtained during the process of impregnation of porous by liquid silicon. In this case on the surface of the pores silicon carbide is formed, the sizes of pores decrease, and the remaining volume is filled with silicon. The greater the summary porosity of initial graphite, the better graphite will be siliconized and there will be more silicon carbide in its composition and less unreaction carbon. (Author)
