Anomalies of the Heat Capacity of Diffuse Ferroelectric Phase Transitions and an Estimate of the Dimensions of the Kanzig Regions,

Abstract

A method is described for evaluating the dimensions of the Kaenzig regions from the anomalous part of the heat capacity near the phase transition point. Three methods can be used for making the evaluation: (1) from the maximum value of the anomalous heat capacity, (2) from the half-width of the heat capacity curve, and (3) from the distribution function for the Kaenzig regions deduced from the heat capacity data. The method was used for BaTiO3 by using literature data. The size of the regions was found to be of the order of magnitude of 10 to the minus 18th power to 10 to the minus 19th power cm. (Author)
