A Device for Coding Graphic Data,

Abstract

A description is given of a device for coding graphical information, using a flying spot to sequentially scan the optical image and a photocathode to detect the reflected light for subsequent computer storage. The flying spot scans the object in a jump-wise fashion providing a controllable scanning rate from 1 to 10,000 light elements (spots) per second. The number of spots in each line and the number of lines in a frame can be adjusted to anywhere from 1 to 64. Scanning nonlinearity does not exceed 3 percent. (Author)
