Heat Capacity of Titanium Boride,

Abstract

The average heat capacity of titanium boride in the range from 20 to 400-800C was measured, at 100C intervals, in a water calorimeter. A linear heat capacity-temperature relation was observed from 400-600C. Departure from the linear relation at 700-800C is attributed to the probable polymorphism of titanium boride. Equations are presented expressing the average and the true molecular heat capacities of titanium boride as a function of temperature in the 0-800C range given. The data obtained were compared with the heat capacity of titanium boride calculated from experimental values on the basis of additivity and from the equation of Maydel. (Author)
