Flame Separation from a Drop,

Abstract

An analysis is given of the conditions for flameout from a burning liquid fuel particle within the framework of reduced film theory. Since the flameout process depends strongly on the rate of the chemical reaction (in the gas phase) between the fuel vapors and the oxidizer, and these rates are insufficiently known, the analysis makes use of relative values. A general expression for the rate of flameout is derived and is verified experimentally. (Author)
