Investigation of Friction and Lead during Rolling,

Abstract

The results of investigating lead with the help of an electrical contact device and a force measuring roll (by the method of core impressions) are presented. The results of studying the distribution of the specific frictional force along the length of the area of deformation are also given. The values of the lead determined by the electrical contact procedure and the core method differ insignificantly. The lead calculated by the Fink formula using experimental values of the critical angle is several times less than in the first two cases. The indicated circumstance is evidence of the stretching of the surface layers of the strip beyond the area of deformation as a result of nonuniformity of the matal flow rates with respect to the height of the strip.
