The Mechanics of Rigid Bodies. The Limit Equilibrium of Multilayered Reinforced Axially-Symmetric Shells,

Abstract

The limit equilibrium of axially symmetrical shells made from multi-layered structurally-orthotropic and uniform material is investigated. A wide application in the use of composite materials such as reinforced plastics and concretes, metals hardened with filaments and thread-like crystals, and others, is to be found in modern technique. Although these materials are essentially orthotropically constructed and dissimilar, consideration of shells made from these materials within the limits of elasticity (at least in those cases where the shell is sufficiently thin, and the characteristics of the basic materials and of the reinforcing elements differ within the limits of reasonable values), leads to the consideration of the equivalent and homogeneous physically orthotropic shell.
