Aircraft Clutch Assemblies, Ramp Roller

Abstract

The results of a 12-month program to evaluate a ramp roller clutch operating at engine input conditions of 26,500 rpm and 1500 hp are contained herein. The purpose of this design, manufacture, and test program was to evaluate clutch operation at the high speeds of advanced technology engines. The ramp roller clutch was designed using the most advanced state-of-the-art technology available. Several new features were added to enhance high-speed operation. The most outstanding results were obtained from hollow rollers, which were used for the first time in a ramp roller clutch.
