Construction and Testing on a Dual 10.6 micrometer CO2 Laser AFC Heterodyne System.

Abstract

The report describes the construction and testing of a dual 10.6 micrometer C02 laser AFC heterodyne system. The system uses two rudimentary C02 lasers and an AFC system which forces one of the lasers to follow the natural frequency excursions of the second (reference source) laser. This yields a relatively stable difference frequenct from two unstable laser sources. This project demonstrates the practicability of operating laser systems which are slaved in frequency to a master oscillator, and thus maintaining very good frequency stability in a working laser system.
