An Analysis and Application of Single-Gun Phosphor Penetration Color Cathode-Ray Tubes.

Abstract

Single-gun color cathode-ray tubes, manufactured by Sylvania and General Electric Company (GE), were investigated for possible military applications. Synthetic signals were used to simulate operational displays. Laboratory equipment, consisting of a dual Flying-Spot Scanner (FSS) and Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) camera system, provided static and Moving-Target-Information (MTI) video signals; TV raster format was used for two and four-color displays. Anode switching and deflection-correction circuitry were built to show tube-circuitry requirements. In addition to demonstration of the displays to observers, polaroid color photo-recording was used to record the information. Engineering discussions, resulting from demonstrations, indicate potential applications for such tubes that will enhance overall system operation. (Author)
