Tunable Optical Sources

Abstract

The purpose of this contract has been the study of new techniques and devices for obtaining tunable radiation across wide regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Principal accomplishments include: the construction and demonstration of the first optical parametric oscillator operating in the 9 to 11 micrometers spectral region; and the proposal and demonstration of the first nonlinear optical technique for access to the vacuum ultraviolet. A brief technical summary of these projects and also of the iodine laser project is given.
