Research in Probability Theory.

Abstract

During this three year period the investigators produced twelve publications and four technical reports. The research dealt with queueing, and ergodic theory applied to stationary time series. The research in ergodic theory was in the areas of irreducible Markov shifts, skew products of Bernoulli shifts with rotations, beta transformations, F-expansions, and Booles transformations. The research on queueing dealt with order statistics, time requirements for sorting data, binary search trees, stationary access rates, servicing in loop systems, waiting lines in a multiple loop system, waiting lines and times in a system with polling, queues and waiting times in a loop with two-way traffic, service epochs in a loop system, and the analysis and modeling of a class of computer communication systems.
