Fluctuation of Control Gates,

Abstract

The design and construction of large control gates, whether for navigation dams, outlet works, or emergency closure are commonplace, and seemingly are straightforward procedures. However, in many instances, hydraulic phenomena associated with the design of such control gates defy an analytical approach and consequently are neglected or de-emphasized when perhaps they should be the controlling factor in the design. Model tests were conducted of the gates and over-all low sill control structure on a 1:36-scale model.
