Tactical Miniature Crystal Oscillator.

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to design and construct exploratory development models of a fast warmup 5 MHz tactical miniature crystal oscillator (TMXO). The total package is to be contained within a volume not to exceed 5 cubic inches, operate in an ambient temperature range of -40 to 75C with a maximum permissible frequency deviation of plus or minus 1 X 10 to the minus 8th power. Available power to heat the temperature sensitive elements of the TMXO from ambient to 85C in one minute is 10 watts; operating power after warmup will be limited to 250 milliwatts. An output frequency deviation, after a 30 day stabilization period, of less than plus or minus 2 X 10 to the minus 10th power per week is required, as well as a short term stability of plus or minus 1 X 10 to the minus 11th power for periods of time ranging from 1 sec to 20 min.
