Microforms in DSIS (Defence Scientific Information Service): An Information Center's Experience with Microforms.

Abstract

Since 1965 DSIS has reproduced copies of microfiche documents received from outside sources for its customers. In 1970, in accordance with long-range plans to use microfiche as the back-up to an automated information retrieval system as a means of a quick and inexpensive way of supplying reports identified by a computer, DSIS began converting DRB reports received in paper form into original microfiche. Recently, use has been made of 16 mm microfilm cartridge systems containing indexes to reports processed by other information centers and usually held as microfiche. The report examines past experience, current projects, and future plans of DSIS. (Author)
