Prefabricated Monolithic Structural Elements Reinforced with Grids Prestressed in Two Directions,

Abstract

Design proposals are presented for pre-stressed grids as reinforcement in heavy concrete footing slabs, for drop shafts and foundation piles, and for cellular concrete wall and floor panels. The heavy grid wire and pre-stressing cable are described and said to reduce material consumption by 2.5 to 3.5 times and cost and labor input by 5 to 20%. Six series of footing slabs of various sizes and designs have been tested for stress, rigidity, and deformation under loads with resulting cracks described and diagrammed. (Author)
