Long-Wave Infrared Spectra of Some Complex Lead Sulfides,

Abstract

The IR spectra of 10 Pb sulfides are reported and absorption bands tabulated for the 150-400/cm range. The characteristic absorption bands of the simple sulfides, i.e. galenite, antimonite, and orpiment were 155, 272-240, and 322-340/cm in very good agreement with the energy of the corresponding bonds. In all complex sulfides studied, i.e. plagionite, heteromorphite, semseyite, dufrenoysite, gratonite, jordanite, and boulangerite, principal absorption bands were formed at 170-180 and 280-330 or 300-370/cm, corresponding to the deformation NU3 vibrations of Pb-S, Sb-S, and As-S bonds, resp.
