Precision Single Sideband Crystal Units.

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to develop single sideband (SSB) quartz crystal units which meet a strict aging requirement, i.e., 2 X 10 to the minus 10th power/week, when measure at the upper turning point (66C) of the crystal unit after a stabilization period of four weeks. These resonators are to be used in temperature compensated crystal oscillators (TCXO), where the operating temperature will be variable from about -55 to +90C. The use of a TCXO for on-frequency operation rather than an ovencontrolled crystal oscillator (OCXO) eliminates the need for a fast warm-up oven. However, the problem of frequency hysteresis that may occur under conditions of varying temperature still exists. (Author)
