Photomultiplier Tube for Efficient Infrared Detection.

Abstract

Developmental emphasis during the quarter reported on was primarily upon (1) optimization of growth techniques, (2) development and optimization of photocathodes activation techniques and (3) development of tube activation and fabrication techniques. Experience indicated that research facilities cannot, by their nature, effectively supply large quantities of materials. Rather, a system which is 'dedicated' to producing a singular type of material is required, and is in use at RCA-Lancaster. Results are tabulated for composition control experiments, activation technique development, and sensitivities and QE achieved at various doping levels. A schematic is presented of processing steps used in activating III-IV samples to a state of negative electron affinity. (Author)
