Carbon Monoxide Spectral Line Selection Studies.

Abstract

An intracavity vapor cell in conjunction with a CO laser was used to experimentally measure the absorptive losses introduced by water vapor and CO2 for 20 of the laser emission lines in the 7-6 to 10-9 vibrational bands. The results indicate that the existing theoretical models are inadequate for predicting actual absorptance values for water vapor partial pressures in excess of 100 torr. The pressure broadening by N2 and CO2 was shown to increase the differential absorptive loss introduced by the water vapor for CO laser rotational lines. However, the self-broadening effect and increased effective absorber thickness introduced by the addition of more water vapor was seen to be more effective. (Author)
