Research on the Possibility of the Sintering of the Borides of Tungsten with Nickel,

Abstract

The conditions under which the tungsten borides W2B, WB, and W2B2 can be sintered with molten nickel were studied in order to obtain compact sintered cermets with different nickel contents. It is shown that satisfactory bonding during sintering of these systems can be obtained if the dihedral angle of wettability is low. The cermets obtained, containing from 1 to 30 percent nickel, exhibited porosity ranging from 5 to 7 percent. (Author)
