The Solubility of Impurities in Metallic Sodium.

Abstract

The solubilities of sodium hydride and carbonate in metallic sodium were determined for temperature ranges of 240-445C and 150-385C respectively. The solubility of sodium chloride in sodium at 400C was approximated. Hydride solubility, from 240-300C, was determined by filtration and filtrate analysis, and, from 300-445C, by absorption and desorption of hydrogen from an Na-NaH-H2 system. Carbonate solubility was determined by filtration and filtrate analysis. The effect of these impurities on oxide solubility in sodium data is discussed. (Author)
