A Comparison of Methods Used in Flutter Research,

Abstract

The Structures and Materials Panel of AGARD has performed two multinational comparative programmes aimed at improving the aerodynamic and elastomechanical basis for the evaluation of aircraft aeroelastic stability. The first of these programmes dealt with the generalised air forces on lifting surfaces oscillating in certain given modes, frequencies and velocities. The results of this programme are described in the preceding Part II of this volume. The second programme, which is reported here, is concerned with the determination of the elastomechanical parameters of a given aircraft, both theoretically from the drawings of the aircraft and experimentally from ground vibration tests on an actual aircraft, and with the subsequent calculation of aeroelastic stability (the so-called flutter calculation).
