A Brief Discussion of Recent Boeing Study of Airplane Landing Gear Truck Pitching,

Abstract

The paper discusses the hopping or pitching of a multi-wheel landing gear truck on a modern commercial airplane. The variables influencing nonequalized and equalized trucks are considered, including vertical translation of the gear and braking modulation. The various means of eliminating or minimizing truck pitching and its effects are considered. Locating the pivot as close as possible to the center of gravity is discussed in relation to minimizing truck pitching on an otherwise equalized truck.
