The LSA Oscillator: Towards Optimization and Control of Frequency, Spectrum and Loading.
Abstract
The problems encountered in achieving wide-band operation of the Limited Space Charge Accumulation (LSA) mode of oscillation in gallium arsenide microwave oscillators are considered. Control of device frequency stability, as well as optimum output spectral purity is achieved. Two circuits are studied, a coaxial mechanically tunable arrangement, and a multi-axis radial circuit (MARC). The MARC achieves over 22% conversion efficiency and is superior for wide-band frequency studies. The extreme sensitivity of the LSA device oscillation frequency to both circuit variations and bias pulse voltage is investigated. (Author)
