Estimation of Noise Directionality Spectrum.

Abstract

Estimation of the noise directionality spectrum directly from the cross-spectral matrix of the received processes at the array elements is investigated. No preprocessing of the element outputs, such as beamforming, is presumed. The integrated-squared-error between the estimated noise directionality spectrum and the true noise directionality spectrum is minimized. Some of the fundamental limitations of the technique, in terms of ambiguity and ill-conditioned matrices, are pointed and illustrated by example for an equi-spaced line array. (Author)
