Construction of Membrane-Surfaced Runway and Helicopter Landing Pad, Ft. Benning, Georgia.

Abstract

The test program described in this report was conducted to obtain factual information for use in evaluating the relative effectiveness of experimental prefabricated membranes in dustproofing and waterproofing both prepared and unprepared soil subgrades when subjected to accelerated traffic of current U. S. Army aircraft. During the period of test, pertinent data concerning the number and type of aircraft operations and the performance of membrane materials and soil subgrade were recorded so that a detailed analysis could be conducted to determine the operational suitability of the expedient surfacing.
