Effects of Lateral Inertia on the Propagation of Elastic-Plastic Waves.

Abstract

A simplified theory, taking into account the effects of lateral or radial inertia, is described for the study of the propagation of elastic-plastic waves in a slender rod. This approximate theory, which is developed through an approach similar to that used by Hermann and Mindlin in their study of elastic- wave propagation, yielded results that show qualitative agreement with some preliminary BRL experimental observations and with other past theoretical and experimental results.
