An Analysis of a Community Shelter Plan Information Campaign.

Abstract

A report is made on public reaction to and use of community shelter plan information. An analysis is given of the message itself, in terms of the attractiveness of its cover, its readability, and the types of information it contains; special attention is given to the communicative value of the maps included in the messages. A random sample of 400 homes in the research area was interviewed some six months after the publication was released. A number of suggestions are given about improvements in the message and its distribution that should yield greater impact for subsequent messages released in other areas.
