Computer Subroutines to Plot and Label Curves for Scientific Publication.
Abstract
Fortran subroutines written for use with the NRL CDC-3800 computer and available plotters (especially the Gerber Model 875 Automatic Drafting Machine) are described. These subroutines facilitate plotting of research results for scientific publication without requiring any manual contribution to the finished product; that is, the plotting machine can draw the coordinate grid and the curves, letter and number the coordinate axes, identify individual curves by means of arrows, use more than one line width (by changing the pen size automatically during the plot), and use dashed as well as solid lines for portions of curves if desired. The subroutines are so written that these results are for the most part obtained automatically by assigning suitable values to the parameters of the subroutines. The quality of the resulting plots made with the Gerber plotter, or any similar machine, is entirely adequate for reproduction in a research report or paper. (Author)
