The Synthesis of a Zwitterion Nido-carborane from Closo-1,6-C2B4H6 and Trimethylamine.

Abstract

A new carborane, 5-(CH3)3N(+)- 2,4-C2B4H6(-), has been prepared from the reaction of closo-1,6-C2B4H6 and trimethylamine. Consistent with both boron-11 and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra a pyramidal structure is proposed having two carbons and three borons in the base and a boron at the apex. The carbons (2,4) are separated by a boron (3) a nitrogen is attached to boron (5); and, a bridge hydrogen is placed between borons (5) and (6). (Author)
