Near Optimal Takeoff Performance of a Heavily Loaded Helicopter in Ground Effect,

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to quantitatively define, through mathematical modeling, those parameters which are important to the pilot who must perform a heavily loaded STOL takeoff. The mathematical model can be used to quantitatively predict takeoff performance of single rotor Army helicopters. The resulting equations are physically easy to interpret and offer new insight into the delicate power balance of the takeoff maneuver. (Author)
