Proceedings of the Meeting of the Mechanical Failures Prevention Group (17th) Held at the National Bureau of Standards, Boulder, CO. on 25-27 April 1972

Abstract

Presented is a report of three-day discussions by a group of nationally-recognized specialists on the subject 'Environmental Effects on Mechanical Failures, Mechanisms and Detection.' Summaries are presented of fifteen prepared talks which had as their objectives the examination of the state of the art on various aspects of environmental effects on mechanical failures, the mechanisms involved, and the methods of detection. Limitations and gaps on the technology available for problem solving are identified, providing guidance for future research. Reports of problems encountered in current field service provide an estimate of the magnitude of the problem and the relevance of current research. Significant audience discussions are reported.
